The city hired a consulting firm, Praxis Political, to help with community engagement and public outreach. “We found that there’s strong public support for enhanced protection for parks and natural spaces, and for this referral,” said Megan Wever.
Kim McCarty, the head of the Community Alliance of Tenants, said the group estimates there could be as many as 90,000 Oregonians who will not have enough money to pay July rent and could be evicted.
Backers of the new law, which takes effect three months after the Legislature adjourns this summer, said it will prevent accidental shootings by children, suicides and mass shootings.
